Sicily

Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, separated only a few kilometers from the mainland, is also called the bridge between two worlds. The scenically variety reaches from dried landscapes up to luxuriant vegetation like orange groves, cypresses, almont trees and palms. The coast is lined with picturesque little harbour towns and numerous charming canyons. But you also get chaotic metropolis as well as idyllic baroque towns. Not to forget the numerous little islands in front of Sicily. The character of Sicily was mostly influenced by many different conquerors and inhabitants of the island who have left many visible marks which are still visible today. Such witnesses are the Greek temples, Roman villas, the arabian influenced architecture of Palermo and Norman domes. 

Sicily is ideal for hiking, because of over a hundred nature parks and protectorates nature teaching paths an marked footpaths. For example the "Parco regionale dell ´Etna", the "Riserva naturale dello Zingaro" (beautiful steep coast) or the "Riserva naturale Cava grande" (refreshing swimming bays and cave graves) just to name a few of them. But also bikers have much fun. Whether on calm minor roads or in nature parks, whether mountain bike or touring bike, every biker gets his own. 

You may climb highest active vulcano in Europe, the Aetna, the Zeus temple, the archeologic park of Syracusa or just walk about the fish market of Catania, after having had an Espresso in one of the typical cafes. Sicily offers numerous possibilities and interesting excursions to spent unforgettable holidays.
