Agrigento
n Agrigento is the "valley of the temples" with a multiplicity of antique temples
(e.g. Concordia temple, Hera temple). Whereby the name is very misleading, because the excavation site lies on a hill.
Especially is to be recommended a visit shortly after sundown if the temples are lit up imposingly.
The Etna
What would be a Sicily visit without a view of the Etna? The largest active volcano of Europe offers a very different
vegetation and naturally the possibility to see lava from next proximity. In the nature park of the Etna bikers
find a great lot of marked paths with informations about the crater and the lava stream. For cyclists there are
many ways and well developed streets. An ascent on the Etna is permitted only with mountain guide. The mountain
railway "Circumetnea" offers to you the possibility of orbiting by course the Etna.
Cefalů
The beautiful pictorial town from the 5. Century lies directly on a cape below a mighty rock. The old
town has a typical mediterranen flair with the many small lanes, numerous Bars, cafes and shops.
Expecially famous is the Normannen cathedral, built in the 12. Century.
Eoli islands
The 7 Eoli Islands, also named Lipari Islands, lie in front of the northeast coast of Sicily. All islands are volcanic origin,
whereby Stromboli is by its active volcano the most well-known island. Ferries start daily to the different islands,
e.g. starting from Patti and Milazzo.
Saline di Trapani
A very noteworthy saltworks landscape, directly at the coast between Trapani and Marsala.
Selinunte
The place was called after the wild celery from the surroundings. It was in former times an important and rich commercial
town. Today it admits by its araea of aracheological excavation.
Siracusa
The antique Syracuse, founded by Greek colonists, was in former times a cosmopolitan town and the most important
place of the island. The island Ortigia ist the historical center of Siracusa attainable over a bridge. Some of the oldest buildings
of Syracus do you find in Ortigia.
Taormina
Founded by the Greeks, is worth seeing by its imposante position. The place which has many narrow lanes
lies 200m over the coast at the foot of the Etna. The main attraction is the antique Greek theatre, from
which people have a fantastic view at Taormina, the sea and the Etna. Entrance approx. € 2,00.
Tindari
The antiquity Greek-Roman town Tyndarus was created 396 b. Chr.. It is a very important excavation
site with the Greek theatre, the basilica, thermal baths and the ruins of the antique
townwalls. Moreover you find in Tindari the church of the Black Madonna, with many art treasures from the
past and the time today's, as well as the lagoons of Oliveri.

In Sicily there is a huge number of nature parks and protected areas. Some are here given below:
Parchi regionali:
- dell Etna
Nature park approximately around the volcano with numerous ways and
paths. Luxariant and varied vegetation.
- dei nebrodi
At the north coast of Sicily lies this nature park. A wooded mountain region, with
springs, brooks and lakes, as well as numerous forest animals.
- delle madonie
Nature park with a various vegetation, a cany "Gola di Tiberio". as well as the second highest mountain of
Sicily.
riserve naturale:
-dello zingaro
This protected area leads 7km along the coast and goes up to 900m height. The typical plant and
landmark of the park is the dwarf palm. The park fascinates by its rough beauty and its intensive colors.
- cavagrande del cassibile
Characteristically for this park the gulches up to 300m depth. In the park there are grottos and cave graves,
as well as a luxuriant vegetation and a various animal world.
- oasi faunistica di vendicari
An important protected area for the bird world (approx.180 kinds). Particularly importantly for duck birds.
