Ostia Antica
The remains of the seaport of Ancient Rome are dated from the 4th century BC. It's regarded as the oldest Roman settlement and is situated about 25 km from the capital. Above all merchants, seamen and slaves lived here. Diseases and wars died out the city and little by little it sank in ooze that fortunately preserved it. Nowadays well preserved temples, dwellings, theatres and mosaics can be visited.

Villa Adriana
The manor of the emperor Hadrian is situated 30 km outside Rome. It's the biggest palace grounds of a Roman emperor and was enlarged by Hadrian in the 2nd century AD. The spacious estate has a well-cared for park, that is considered an inspiration for baroque landscape gardening. The villa and the surrounding buildings are influenced by Hadrian's journey to Greece and Egypt.

Necropolis of Cerveteri
Cerveteri in the north of Lazio is regarded as the most important Etruscan city. The countless mounds around town are part of the UNESCO world heritage. The wall paintings in the circular tombs are similar to those in ancient Greece. The subterranean tombs are partly carved into the trass, partly built from this material. The oldest date back to the 7th century BC.

Lago di Bolsena
The lake of Bolsena is one of the largest Italian lakes and captivates through its high water quality. On the beaches of the elliptic lake the black sand reveals the volcanic origin of the stretch of water. A law prohibits a mass development of the shore, which has preserved a lot of the lake's originality.

Pontinian Islands
The group of islands consisting of six islands with a total population of 4000 inhabitants is situated before the southern coast of Lazio. The archipelago can easily and quickly be reached from the mainland and offers apart from picturesque bays and untouched nature also excavations. Yachtsmen and divers get their money's worth here!

Is there anything left to say about a city that all roads lead to? The heart of catholic Christendom, art metropolis, dolce vita...The city is a must see.

Viterbo
About 100km away from Rome, this town with 60.000 inhabitants boasts the best-preserved medieval old town of Central Italy. Many popes stayed here and left their mark in the form of beautiful palazzi and churches.
