Cilento - Marina di Camerota Impressions The name

Directly at the coast of the Cilento, south of Naples in the region Campania the small fisher place Marina di Camerota is appropriate for approx. 200 km.

Here you find a breath-robbing coast with small bays, hidden grottos or dizzy steep coasts. The miles-long sand beaches and the turquoise coloured sea invite simply to bathing and diving.

In the place you find a multiplicity at bars, cafes, restaurants and shops. The charming port loads simply for staying in.

In the hinterland are the mountain villages Camerota and Licusati which belong to the commune. Camerota is well-known of its ceramic workshops and its small angular lanes. Licusati is a small sleepy place which is lying at the foot of Monte Bulgheria and which awakes only in the months July and August.

Vacation rentals in Marina di Camerota

A boat travel along the coast as well as the migration to Porto Infreschi are absolutely recommended. The way to the natural port takes about. two hours. After the walking tour one will have a magnificent view. A return trip by boat is possible. In the low season it is advisable to book a place on a boat at the harbour before starting.

In Marina di Camerota and in the vicinity there are sandy and stony beaches. The beach Mingardo, somewhat outside of Marina di Camerota extends over some kilometres along the coast. It is possible to rent pedal boats and canoes in the time from June to September at all beaches.

Marina di Camerota is an ideal starting point for walking-tours in the hinterland and trips into the environment e.g. to Paestum.

According to a legend the name Camerota developed due to a sad dear history:

This legend says, that the helmsman of Enea, named Palinuro, fell in love with the beautiful girl Kamaraton. Unfortunately however this love was not answered by the girl Kamaraton. Palinuro pursued therefore her picture into the sea depth. The goddess Venus converted thereupon the girl into a rock, on this rock there stands today the place Camerota.
