The place Palinuro is also called the place of the thousand grottos. It is situated directly to the coast of the
Cliento, approx. 170 km south of Naples in the region of Campania. Palinuro is
specially known for its cape which rises up the beaches. Around the cape there are a lot of grottos
in partly reachable only by boat or by divers. The sea around Palinuro is a paradise for a diver. Fine sandy
beaches and the crystal clear water invite to go swimming.
Somewhat above in the hills is the mountain village Centola which belongs to the commune.

The name of town and the cape has its origin in the legend of Palinuro, the helmsman of the "Aeneas" who fell in love with the
beautiful girl called Kamaraton. |
