Far away from the mass-tourism, in the youngest Italian National Park
"Parco Nazionale del Cilento" many rare animals and plants found a place for surviving.
The landscape presents itself very variously. The coast offers grottos and beaches, small fishing villages,
that kept their originality.
The hinterland has a beautiful landscape with gulches, mountains and forests. According to season you find wild
cyclamen, scilla, crocus, cowslips and different orchids. Blackberries, raspberries or funghi (edible boletus) invite to nibble in autumn.
The Macchia, an area resulted by fire-cleaning, surprises with a various flora. The Macchia consists of bushes like myrtles,
rosemary and lavender. Small groups of orchids are between the shrubs. Colorful butterflies flutter in the Macchia of
blossom to blossom. Numerous birds, as for example different woodpecker kinds, black robins, herons and royal eagles
are to be observed in the Cilento.
The nature protection organization WWF maintains two protective areas: In "Parco del Persano" (to the north of the Cilento) otters,
badgers and wild boars are living. In "Parco del Bussento" (in the south of the Cilento) even threatened animals, like wildcats
and wolves have found their living space. It is a botanical paradise of rare beauty. Different orchids, lilies,
anemones and primroses give themselves in spring a rendezvous.
