Cilento - Battaglia

In the wonderful green hinterland, on the edge of the Parco Nazionale del Cilento, there lies the small dreamy mountain place Battaglia. It belongs to the commune Casaletto di Spartano and is separated by the river “Rio di Casaletto”.

The charming landscape of the Cilento with forests of beeches and acacias as well as the passing river invite to walking tours, e.g. to traverse the religious walking way “Rocce”, to go to the waterfall “Capelli di Venere” or to the old water mill “Felice Bello”. It is also possible to climb on the “Monte Cocuzzo”, which is about 1400 m high.

But one has not to go without a bathe in the crystal clear sea, because the Gulf of Policastro is reachable in only 20 minutes by car. Around and in the place Sapri there are beautiful long sandy or shingle beaches. A visit of the small fishing place Scario and from there a boat trip along the marvellous coast up to the natural harbour “Porto Infreschi” is highly recommended.

In the idyllic place Battaglia there still is a medievally aura when one goes through the small lanes passing several chapels. Certainly dominant is the Palazzo Gallotti of the Baron Gallotta from the 15th Century.
