| Calabria - Capo Vaticano | The legend | ||
|
The foothills Capo Vaticano lie in some kilometres from the medieval Tropea
with its impressive cathedral from the 12th century. The coast “Costa degli Dei”
(coast of the Gods) makes all honour for its name. Lonely bays with fantastic sand
beaches are surrounded by steeply rising cliffs. A wonderful view over the Tyrrhenian Sea
and with favourable weather conditions up to Sicily and to the island Stromboli with the
still active volcano.

In special the sailors wanted predicting over the weather, in order to experience the navigation conditions
at the quite dangerous narrows of Messina. Thus the through travelers sailors visited the seer "Mantineo"
in his grotto. Today there is still a characteristic rock is designated as: Mantineo (in the Greek manteuo)
and literally translated means this the "Comunication of the gods will". |
