Calabria - Capo Vaticano The legend

The foothills Capo Vaticano lie in some kilometres from the medieval Tropea with its impressive cathedral from the 12th century. The coast “Costa degli Dei” (coast of the Gods) makes all honour for its name. Lonely bays with fantastic sand beaches are surrounded by steeply rising cliffs. A wonderful view over the Tyrrhenian Sea and with favourable weather conditions up to Sicily and to the island Stromboli with the still active volcano.

The cape lies 284 meters over the sea level and separates with its natural projection the Gulf Gioia Tauro from the Gulf Sant'Eufemia. The surrounding area still presents itself as quite unaffected landscape of unusual beauty. Lookout points with breathtaking panoramas, rough rocks formed by the wind and the sea, isolated beaches with many small bays are surrounded by the blue sky and by the crystal-clear sea. The sumptuous and unaffected mediterranean flora and fauna of spring transforms the Capo Vaticano into an enormous sea garden with flowers in thousand colours and smells.

The sea landscape is ideal for divers with a various fish existence and a large diversity of species of plants. Due to the natural flow pattern of the two gulfs, Sant'Eufemia and Gioia Tauro, the fish meet from two directions.

Capo Vaticano belongs to the municipality Ricadi, like also the places Santa Domenica di Ricadi and S. Nicolo di Ricadi.
