Coriglano d`Otranto - Galatina

The small village Corigliano d`Otranto, mit ca. 5.600 Einwohnern, with about 5.600 inhabitants lies in the province Lecce in the so-called "Salentinean Greece". In this and in only 10 further communes one speaks a special dialect, a mixture of the Italian and the Greek language.

The village is well-known for its well-preserved castle „Castello di Monti“ from the 14. Century and for many palaces of aristocracy and churches as e.g. the monastery „Convento dei Cappuccini“, the churches „S. Leonardo, „della Madonna degli Angeli“ and „della Madonna delle Grazie“.

In the village are several bars, restaurants and shops which invite to rumble. The historic centre is closed for cars in summertime and so it is possible to enjoy an undisturbed dinner under the open air. In the proximity of Corigliano d'Otranto lies the baroque village Galatina which roots traces also from the Greeks and which is also rich in historic and cultural treasures.

The "Salentinean Greece" is rich in exceptionally historic and artistic traces as the churches, Byzantine crypts, watchtowers and subterranean oil-mills. Such objects of interest are also in the well-known villages Lecce, Otranto und Gallipoli, which are not apart from here and which are worth visiting.

By the position - amidst in the heart of Salento - both coasts, the Ionian (coast of Gallipoli) and the Adrian (cost of Otranto) are only 20 km far away. Especially worth seeing is the wonderful road along the coast from Otranto to Santa Maria di Leuca.
